Relaxed Newborn Photoshoots

“What is the ideal age for newborn photoshoots?” Before your baby is 12 days old. This is the age that they can still curl up into little balls, similar to being in the womb. After 12 days, they start stretching their tiny limbs, and are not as amendable or the most co-operative!

Don’t worry, it’s fine and we really understand. If your newborn wants to have a moment of yelling, or needs feeding or nappy changes then that is all cool and part of a newborn photoshoot.

When I arrive at your home (or the hospital) it is best to have your newborn having a full belly if that’s possible. Of course, their feeding schedule might not match yours, so don’t stress.

If your infant falls asleep before I arrive, don’t worry about waking them. In fact if we can keep them asleep then all the better. Sleeping babies are wonderfully photogenic.

Once they are awake, we’ll be able to capture their beautiful eyes – lots of cuddles will help them feel warm and secure. To be honest, newborns don’t have a great deal of awareness of where they are or what is happening, so it is about comfort.

Keep your house nice and warm for your newborn session.

Don’t worry about little “accidents”, they happen and we’ll just put things in the wash afterwards.

Your newborn shoot is of course about you too. If you would like to be included in the portraits too, be dressed and ready yourselves.

You may be feeling a tired and wrung-out following a recent delivery. We will use posing, lighting and camera angles to make you look fantastic. We can always retouch photos if needed.

It’s quite common for mum’s and dad’s to do skin-to-skin photographs with their new baby. That’s fine, just let us know and we will sort that out for you.
